A 29-year-old man appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court today accused of statutory rape.
It is alleged that Mormanthon Keith Walton Gill, of Grant Road, Westbury Road, St Michael committed the act against a 14-year-old girl between June 1 and October 31.
Gill was not required to plead to the indictable charge when he appeared before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant with his attorney Romain Marshall.
He, however, entered a not guilty plea to the charge that he damaged an $875 gate belonging to the Barbados Investment Development Corporation on October 29.
When it came time for bail there were no objections from the police prosecutor and the accused was released after his $5,000 surety was accepted.
However, Gill must now report to Central Police Station every Wednesday before 8 a.m. with valid identification, stay away from the teenager and must also apply to the court for permission if he plans to travel.
He will make his next court appearance on March 25, 2019.
