Diabetes, one of the non-communicable diseases, is a major cause of disability and death for millions of people worldwide and levels have reached epidemic proportions within our island. iMart Pharmacy recognizes this and is committed to supporting the work of the Diabetes Association of Barbados.
On 15 June 2017, iMart Pharmacy launched the Plastic Bag Initiative where customers were charged a 15-cent deterrent fee. iMart’s ownership decided to donate the funds collected to different charities across the island. The Diabetes Association of Barbados was selected as the first charity to receive all proceeds from the sale of these bags. iMart Pharmacy also matched the amount collected from the bag sales. On World Diabetes Day 2017, iMart presented the donation to the Diabetes Association of Barbados.
Continuing with the trend, this year, the management of iMart has recognized that more needed to be done to create awareness about the prevention and management of diabetes, not only for affected individuals, but also for the entire family.
In 2018, Gondola ends showcase and highlighted various products as well as accessories which can assist an individual living with diabetes were built in each iMart store within the vicinity of the pharmacy. Our efforts are consistent with the three areas of focus – discover, prevent and manage diabetes – which have been captured in this year’s theme selected by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) – The Family And Diabetes.
iMart Pharmacy is once again pleased to present a monetary donation to the Diabetes Association of Barbados on World Diabetes Day 2018. We understand the funds will be used to sustain and extend the Association’s existing education programmes. The trustees and Executive Officers of the Association are committed to using this donation to benefit their membership and the community to join the global effort in diabetes awareness, prevention and self-management.
