A 27-year-old man who admitted to having 47.5 grammes of marijuana in his possession must pay an $800 fine in five months to avoid prison time.
Acting Magistrate Sandra Rawlins imposed the amount on Jabarri Samuel Francis, of Cutting Road, Haggart Hall, St Michael when he appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Police spotted Francis walking towards a vehicle as they were conducting checks in his community on November 14. He was then observed removing a plastic bag from his pocket and discarding it. It was retrieved and the illegal substance was discovered.
He was charged with possession for which he was convicted, reprimanded and discharged. However, a $500 fine must be paid in five months if he wants to avoid spending three months in prison on the possession with intent to traffic charge while a $300 fine which carries an alternative of one month in prison must be paid in the same period on the possession with intent to supply charge.
