A police officer was yesterday made to pay $3500 in compensation after he was found guilty of criminal assault by private prosecution.
Police constable Ian Williams was found guilty by Magistrate Wanda Blair in the Holetown Magistrates’ Court and was ordered to pay the money in one month or spend two months in prison.
Williams was found guilty of assaulting Andre Jemmott back in 2012.
Jemmott had been initially charged with assaulting Williams as well as resisting arrest also in 2012, but was adjudged not guilty.
However, his attorney Sian Lange filed a countersuit.
The attorney also told Barbados TODAY she planned to sue the police officer for malicious prosecution.
