Store owners in The City, opened their businesses on Sunday for residents searching for outfits to attend Old Year’s Night parties, church, and other events.
However, many of them were disappointed because the number of shoppers they were looking for did not show up.
When a Barbados TODAY team visited some of the stores just after noon today, management, and employees reported that “things really slow”.
But they all said that they are looking forward to a brighter tomorrow as they expect hundreds to flock to Bridgetown to do their last minute shopping.
Business owner Keshia Pope, said she was in Swan Street with her clothing and jewellery since 6 a.m., but hardly received any sales.
“I’m hoping that probably tomorrow things will pick up. But today was a no. I was here from 6 o’clock because I felt that more stores would have been opened today, but stores only opened around 11 and midday. So we really hope that tomorrow is going to be a better day,” Pope said.
Another store owner, at Busby Alley, who gave his name as Troy, also agreed that people were hardly shopping today.
“All now I looking to leave town because nothing happening right now. Town dead. If you look through Swan Street you would see exactly what I mean, nothing happening. Tomorrow I am hoping for better to end the year on a good note,” he said.
Kyla, who was selling hats, glasses, crown, horns, and other accessories to ring in 2019, in front of Abeds, Swan Street, said she believes that tomorrow would be her day as she anticipates good sales. (AH)
