Despite being given a reprieve by Magistrate Graveney Bannister, a motorist who appeared on six traffic charges still ended up behind bars.
Glyne Thorne, 57, of Lewis Gap, Green Hill, St Michael, will spend the next 100 days at HMP Dodds, or until the $1000 fine imposed on him is paid.
When Thorne appeared in the Traffic Court of the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court, he was convicted, reprimanded and discharged on five of the six charges.
The repeat offender was given a CRD on the charges of driving a motor vehicle on July 6, 2018, without road tax; driving a vehicle which was not registered with the Barbados Licensing Authority; using fraudulent number plates and driving without a valid driver’s licence.
He was also given a CRD on a charge of not having a registration card on the upper section of the left front fork, because it was badly worded, since cars do not carry front forks.
The magistrate had initially fined him $475 forthwith for driving without a valid licence, but later changed his mind.
However, he fined him $1000 forthwith with an alternative of 100 days in prison for driving without insurance.
But Thorne told Magistrate Bannister he had no money, which resulted in him being taken away in handcuffs to begin his sentence.
