ST JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – The West Indies camp was in mourning on Saturday following the early morning death of fast bowler Alzarri Joseph’s mother.

“It is with great sadness that we have been informed that Sharon Joseph, the mother of our young fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, has passed away,” a statement from West Indies team manager, Rawl Lewis, said.

“We know that this will be a very sad and difficult time for Alzarri and his family.

“But we hope that it brings him comfort to know that his grief is shared by us all – his teammates and support staff of the Windies team – and we would like to extend our deepest sympathies to him and his family.”

The 22-year-old Joseph still took the crease during the West Indies first innings, making seven as the hosts were dismissed for 306.

Both West Indies and England wore black armbands as a mark of respect.
