Compensation in the sum of $460 or three months in prison was the sentence imposed on a Christ Church man who was charged with wounding last year.
The forthwith sum was not paid and he is currently at HMP.
The sentence was handed down to Brandon Keron Ackeem Coward, of No 122 Kingsland Terrace when he appeared before Magistrate Elwood Watts in the Oistins Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
When he first appeared in court he had pleaded not guilty to wounding Alexa Hoffmann on February 18, 2018 but returned to court yesterday and entered a guilty plea.
Prosecutor Station Sergeant Rudolph Burnett told the court that Coward rented a room at Hoffmann’s house and had issues paying the rent. He subsequently left the residence unknown to the complainant leaving some of his possessions behind but taking a few of Hoffmann’s.
On February 18 Coward was walking by with his girlfriend when Hoffmann attempted to give him his belongings. Coward allegedly told him to ‘back off’. According to the prosecutor he then pulled a cleaver from his pocket and swiped at Hoffmann but missed and struck his girlfriend instead. Coward and Hoffmann began to fight. During that fight Coward struck Hoffmann in the face with the cleaver before leaving the area. The matter was reported and he was arrested.
He allegedly admitted to police that he fought with Hoffmann but denied having a cleaver.
