Twenty-seven-year-old Christina Hunte is the owner of Kreativ Edge which was founded in 2014. The social media marketing agency seeks to help their customers in the creative industry boost their image and enhance their business operations.
Positive Vibes sat down with Christina to discuss Kreativ Edge and how she became involved in social media marketing.
Q: What is your mantra for life?
A: Be honest, open, logical and fair.
Q: What is one thing the public would not know about Christina?
A: I love music tremendously and I have a dream of playing every instrument in the world. The next instrument I want to learn is the bass guitar and then I am on to the harp.
Q: When did you realize you wanted to be an entrepreneur?
A: I am not really sure, but I know I was very young because I was in primary school at the time.
Q: How did you come up with the name for your business, Kreativ Edge?
A: Funny enough, there is another marketing company in Barbados that I wanted to work for years ago but it did not happen. However, I love the company so much (still do to this day) that I was inspired to have the word ‘creative’ in my business name. Then, because I wanted to be different, I decided to find a unique spelling for ‘creative’ which became Kreativ. I later found out that it is the Swedish translation. ‘Edge’ was a suggestion from a friend.
Q: What is one of the highlights of your business thus far?
A: Running the Kreativ Edge seven-day Social Media Challenge. We got close to 40 people joining the challenge, and it even spread to other countries! That was really special for me. The challenge created a community of entrepreneurs who were excited to see the other businesses, and they learned that a lot of what they go through, other entrepreneurs face as well. The feedback was 100 per cent positive and I am grateful for that.
Q: How did this idea come about?
A: It just popped into my head, to be honest. Like most other ideas, I would be in the kitchen or on the road and an idea will pop into my head. It most likely comes from the fact that I always want to help people, so the challenge was a way of encouraging people to post on their pages to connect them more to their audiences. I will admit that I delayed it for a long time because I thought that people would think it was lame.
Q: Why is social media marketing important?
A: I would say marketing on a whole is important if you want people to remember your business and if you want to grow the business and have a consistent stream of income. Social media marketing is important because in today’s world, audiences expect you to have a social media presence. It is the first place they look for information about your business, so you must deliver or the competition will gain an edge over you.
Q: Is it challenging being an entrepreneur in Barbados?
A: Sometimes. Sometimes I pitch Kreativ ideas to businesses and they do not go for them. Sometimes they do not see the vision and other times it is the lack of industry information because people do not want to share their knowledge. So it can be hard getting the data you need to make good decisions or to write your business plan.
Q: What would you like to see changed in the entrepreneurial landscape in Barbados?
A: More collaboration, less competition. There is a space for everyone. Everybody can win in their business. You just have to find your Kreativ Edge and go from there.
Q: What advice would you have for any young person looking to start a business?
A: Get a mentor. Get a good support system. Figure out why exactly you are starting a business. If you are doing it for fun or for the money, you will crumble when things get hard. And it gets very hard at times. Nevertheless, entrepreneurship will make you grow as a person once you stay in it long enough to let it teach you the necessary lessons. I think it is worth it in the end.
Q: Where can persons find you on social media?
A: Persons can find me on social media @kreativeedge.co. You can also check out my website KreativEdge.co. (LG)
