After 45 time of visiting Barbados, English couple Julie Kippax and Simon Craig decided to tie the knot in a place they love the most.

The cricket pitch at Dover Club in Christ Church was the place for tranquillity and love, as the beaming 51-year-old bride Kippax, and her handsome 44-year-old husband Craig exchanged vows before family, friends and specially invited guests this morning.

Barbados will always have a special place in Kippax’s heart because not only was she among the thousands that attended the 2007 Cricket World Cup, but it was also at the Rostrevor Hotel in St. Lawrence Gap that her beau Craig, a golfer, proposed three years ago and she accepted.

Several onlookers including tourists stood outside the fences of Dover Club playing field and witnessed what was truly a special occasion for the sporting couple who are from Manchester in England.

Members of the Barbados Defence Force cricket team with whom Kippax and Craig had a relationship through a cricket exchange programme, joined the couple on their special day and provided a guard of honour after they were officially announced as husband and wife.

Kippax also shared with Barbados TODAY that this date for her wedding was specifically chosen because it would have been her father’s birthday, and therefore she did this to honour both her parents who are no longer here.

Cricket has always been part of Kippax’s life, from watching her father play cricket for 50 years to gracing the field as a teenager and playing a couple of matches. She is currently the secretary of her club, Micklehurst, and remains passionate about the sport.

The bridal party comprised five bridesmaids and groomsmen each and when asked what they enjoyed most about Barbados, Kippax said, “The people, I have so many friends here.” Simon chuckled and added, “Banks Beers.”

Senior Administrator Adrian Donovan who spoke on behalf of the National Sports Council welcomed the guests to Barbados after stating they were honorary members of the community as he knew them for many years.

Donovan attested to the fact that Julie and Simon know persons in the Dover community by their first names. He also thanked the Rostrevor Hotel and members of the Barbados Defence Force cricket team who helped make the event a historic occasion.
