Abortion should not be taken lightly

Having an abortion is a serious matter! But not so for two teenage girls who posted a video inside a Planned Parenthood clinic in California. One of the girls is about to have an abortion and decided to let the whole world know about it.

What the world sees is a happy, dancing teenager named Ashley just moments before her abortion – obviously celebrating the event!

The video ends “showing an ultrasound image of Ashley’s unborn child, presumably moments before the abortion procedure, as she laughs along with her friend filming her,” (article by Brandon Showalter, Christian Post March 2, 2020, www.christianpost.com).

Of course, this video has gone viral on social media, with hundreds of thousands of likes and comments, and has been viewed millions of times. It has so alarmed the founder of the pro-life organization “Live Action,” that she has tweeted, “Our ability to be cruel is endless. When society celebrates abortion, should we be surprised to see this kind of cruelty? My heart breaks for this little helpless baby, killed on camera, his young mother joking about it. And it breaks for her, who will live with this all her life.”

It is true that the world celebrates abortion – especially the Western world. That is why these two young people could be so bold and carefree in posting such a reckless video.

This is a baby, after all!  Not just a fetus – a human being! One whose life was taken away. And while the baby’s mother jokes and laughs, the procedure was filmed by the mother’s friend. This child would never say “Daddy” or “Mummy,” make a first step, excitedly discover the surroundings, or spend the first day at school.

No life at all. Having an abortion is a serious matter.

“At the 2016 Democratic National Convention, Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, proclaimed to applause that she had an abortion and presented it as a noble decision.” (www.christianpost.com).

Where is the nobility? How noble is it to dissect and destroy a tiny baby in the womb on the altar of pro-choice? There can be nothing noble or honourable when one goes against the divine ideal and intent of the Sovereign Lord, Creator of everything and every living being – including man, the pinnacle of His creation!

Let us be reminded that it is He who said, “Children are a gift from the Lord; and they are a reward from him” (Psalm 127:3 NLT). Gifts and rewards are treasured and cared for. In spite of the latest philosophy or cultural belief espoused by the world, we must always return to what God says and what He deems as fundamental and important.

This is the place where we find peace, joy and contentment.  Unfortunately, those who have influenced Ashley toward this decision have wickedly steered her away from such a life.  And our hearts “break for her, who will live with this [decision] all her life.”

But there is hope for her and all the other Ashleys in the world today. The God who views children as His gifts and rewards to the human family, is the same God who loves and cherishes them. They just need to turn to Him and seek His forgiveness through His Son. He will surely pardon and forgive them.
