The Carnival events, slated for March 12-15, have been postponed “as a safety measure in light of Covid-19 hitting Jamaican shores”, it was confirmed in a statement. It was further stated: “The UWI community deems this a necessity as we put the interests of our stakeholders – patrons, sponsors, service providers and the general public health to the fore. “We wish to take this opportunity to thank our loyal supporters for their continued patronage and ask everyone to take the necessary precautions and stay safe during this period. The new dates for the events are being discussed with our stakeholders and rescheduled dates will be communicated soon.” The announcement came shortly after Health Minister, Christopher Tufton confirmed Jamaica’s second coronavirus case, another imported infection from the UK.
