Wayne McLloyd Grant, of fixed place of abode, pleaded guilty to stealing a $150 cellular phone belonging to Dwayne Providence on January 15. Providence is also a car washer along the Bay Street area. According to the prosecutor he was having alcohol drinks on the day when he feel asleep where he was sitting. He was later awoken by a voice informing him that Grant appeared to have taken something from his backpack which was near him. He searched and discovered that his cellular phone was missing from the bag’s pocket where he had placed it. He gave chase but did not find Grant. Providence reported the theft to police who were passing at the time and they investigated. When Grant was apprehended he informed police he had thrown the device on to the roof of the Fairchild Street Bus Terminal and it was retrieved. Magistrate Douglas Frederick told Grant who had been on remand since his first appearance that he was unrecognisable. I needed rest,” Grant responded. He however told the magistrate that while he had taken the phone he did not remove it from Providence’s bag. “The phone was on the ground and we was drinking rum. He say he not pressing the charge and turn round and do it. “That unfair. He ain’t righteous,” Grant declared before he was sentenced to six months in prison. The time he has spent on remand has been taken into consideration. “Make sure you write that down Mr Fredericks because they does make mistakes up there,” Grant said as he was led away by a prison officer.
