Minister of Environment and National Beautification Trevor Prescod, management of the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA), representatives from the National Union of Public Workers and health officials are currently meeting with workers at the Authority’s Wildey offices.
The employees staged a work stoppage this morning expressing fears about the coronavirus COVID-19.
Some workers complained about the lack of safety gear including masks and hand sanitizers. They are also calling for the re-establishment of the health and safety committee.
Public Relations Officer of the SSA Carl Padmore says, “Minister Prescod has given some instructions on some suppliers that we should reach out to and we are working at that to see how we can source additional sanitizers and other protective equipment.”
Padmore added that the health and safety committee would meet later today.
