The Barbadian community in the United States is gripped with grief as the deadly coronavirus COVID-19 claimed five lives yesterday.

Consul General to New York Mackie Holder told Barbados TODAY this evening it has simply been “terrifying” as he struggled to hold back his emotions.

He disclosed that among the recent patients who died were Marlene Hinds, president of the Barbados Group of St Gabriel’s Episcopal Church and Anthony Hall, the secretary of the Barbados Ex-Police Association.

Anthony Hall, the secretary of the Barbados Ex-Police Association.

Holder said: “Both were well-loved and known and served their community and organisations well.

“Coming after the passing of Barry Downes yesterday it’s just bad. I have big people just bawling, not crying. The Barbadian community is rocking from this tragic situation,” he lamented.
