The Barbadian community in the United States is gripped with grief as the deadly coronavirus COVID-19 claimed five lives yesterday.

Consul General to New York Mackie Holder told Barbados TODAY this evening it has simply been โ€œterrifyingโ€ as he struggled to hold back his emotions.

He disclosed that among the recent patients who died were Marlene Hinds, president of the Barbados Group of St Gabrielโ€™s Episcopal Church and Anthony Hall, the secretary of the Barbados Ex-Police Association.

Anthony Hall, the secretary of the Barbados Ex-Police Association.

Holder said: โ€œBoth were well-loved and known and served their community and organisations well.

โ€œComing after the passing of Barry Downes yesterday itโ€™s just bad. I have big people just bawling, not crying. The Barbadian community is rocking from this tragic situation,โ€ he lamented.
