The man who recently caused police officers at the District ‘E’ Police Station to isolate themselves after he presented with flu like symptoms, was remanded to prison today on a firearm related charge.
When Zico Renaldo Williams, of Endeavour No. 2, St James appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court this morning it was revealed that he had been charged with using a firearm on April 4 when he did not have a valid licence to do so. The offence falls under the Firearms Act and is therefore a High Court matter. He was not required to plead before Magistrate Elwood Watts.
He is also facing the indictable charge that on the same date he wounded Akil Turton with intent to maim, disfigure or disable him or to cause serious bodily harm to him.
Last Saturday, April 4 police spokesman acting Inspector Rodney Inniss in a statement revealed that the “suspect” was in custody at the police station when he exhibited symptoms.
Given the current situation with the ongoing pandemic, Inniss said, it became necessary for the Covid-19 medical team to conduct the necessary tests.
“As a precautionary measure, all police personnel who had come into contact with this individual whilst in custody remained self isolated at the station. The results subsequently came back negative for COVID -19. Both the suspect and all police personnel were cleared,” the released explained.
Today the accused who was outfitted with a mask when he appeared in court was remanded to Her Majesty’s Dodds Prison to make his next appearance in the District ‘E’ Holetown Magistrates’ Court on May 5.
