In a festive environment at the SSA’s Wildey Depot, workers were treated to loud applause, led by Minister of the Environment and National Beautification Trevor Prescod, SSA management and the top brass of the National Union of Public Workers, including President Akanni McDowall and Acting Deputy General Secretary Delicia Burke. In his brief address, Prescod reminded the workers they were important as he praised their contribution to the nation’s development. “Everybody benefits from the service of the Sanitation Service Authority; there is not a society under the sun that [doesn’t] have the disposal of waste, and there is not a society under the sun that can function without the service of a Sanitation Department. “I understand clearly, your commitment, I understand clearly your courage, I deeply appreciate your commitment to the country in general and I believe you ought to be honored for everything that you are doing.” McDowall said the NUPW is proud of its SSA members and assured they have the union’s full support.
