Bajan VibesEntertainment ‘Twisted’ for a COVID-19 cause . . . Group entertains and raises funds for the vulnerable by Barbados Today 30/04/2020 written by Barbados Today 30/04/2020 2 min read A+A- Reset Share FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 468 When Twisted Entertainment hosted its House Party 2 last Friday, it was not only to entertain the thousands of followers on its Instagram page. The main purpose of the four-hour long live event was to help raise much-needed funds during the COVID-19 crisis for vulnerable families and frontline health care workers as well. Top local and overseas deejays kept the vibe hyped. Entertaining those at home due to the COVID-19 restrictions were: DJ Puffy, Coppershot, Riggo Suave and DJ Ras. A playlist inclusive of soca, reggae, dancehall, rap and contemporary music was part of the night’s entertainment as deejays encouraged viewers to donate to the charity. Director of Twisted Zamani Moodie told Bajan Vibes that the group was driven by a desire to help. “In the midst of the crisis we wanted to help. Even though all of us are affected by the COVID 19 pandemic, some are more vulnerable than others. We wanted to use our platform of almost 20,000 online followers to play a part in helping families and frontline health care workers who have been most affected. As Barbadians and Caribbean people, we wanted to help, not only in our country, but other Caribbean islands that are also in great need.” The group which produces the popular Crop Over and Independence event Tipsy, held their first house party on Friday, March 27. Moodie said the idea was not only for people to donate but for people to see how they can make a difference, while providing a community where we can still have fun, communicate and focus on the needs of our neighbours. “We initially identified three charities in three countries – Barbados, Jamaica and Trinidad to donate whatever money is raised. There are COVID Volunteers Barbados, Is There Not A Cause in Trinidad, and Food for the Poor Jamaica. One hundred per cent of the proceeds go to charity for use in the COVID-19 relief efforts.” You Might Be Interested In Crystal Beckles-Holder, 2nd runner up in regional competition Lights, camera, flash! Can‘t stop his roll The director said that Twisted Entertainment has always been involved in charity and that the group will continue to seek out ways in which they can lend assistance. “From our very inception, we have consistently pursued charitable endeavours. It’s important to us to give back. Even though it is a tough time for promoters, this is about humanity and showing how we can be there for others. We have found that as a group, or even as individuals, it gives us a special joy to be able to help, as well as fulfil a key mandate of being people centred and people first.” Moodie continued: “We are still planning and at the moment trying to see if there are any other ways in which we can help, given that this is expected to be a long-term crisis and we will all need to contribute.” (IMC) Barbados Today Stay informed and engaged with our digital news platform.
