For the third time this week, death came to workplace as a freak accident claimed the life of a veteran fishmonger and injured another at the Berinda Cox Fisheries Complex at Oistins.

Rita Hunte, 74, of Upper Carters Gap, Christ Church died in hospital of her injuries after being run over by a wayward car., according to police.

They said that around 3:50 p.m, a 54-year-old driver was about to drive out of the fish market’s car park when the car sped across the car park and struck another car before mounting the sidewalk and collided with a sitting Hunte and Dorothy Hall. 63, of Sayer Court, Christ Church.

Hunte,  was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by ambulance with severe injuries including compound fractures to both feet and injuries to her lower torso. As news reached that Hunte did not survive her injuries, the market erupted in a loud outpouring of grief as fellow vendors and friends wept openly.

Hall, who suffered injuries to her right foot, was also taken to hospital by ambulance.

The driver of the car, whose name was not disclosed by police, was unhurt.

Police at Oistins are investigating.
