Accreditation Council appoints new management by Barbados Today 02/07/2020 written by Barbados Today 02/07/2020 3 min read A+A- Reset Share FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 331 The Barbados Accreditation Council (BAC) has welcomed Lisa Gale as its new Executive Director and Sharon Alleyne has assumed the position of Manager Technical Services with effect from July 1st 2020. Lisa Gale is an experienced trade policy advisor, trainer, chartered director and management consultant who has served in both the public and private sectors of Barbados. More recently, she was Managing Consultant at Lisa Gale Consulting, and Director of L.E.G Development Services Inc. where her most recent portfolio was serving as Resident Advisor to the Caribbean Development Bank’s Caribbean Growth Forum for 2018 and 2019. Speaking about her new role, Gale explained that she hopes to use her experience and training to assist the Council in charting the course forward as Barbados navigates in a post-COVID environment. Gale says she relishes the opportunity to work with the existing team at the BAC which upholds values of leadership, quality, professionalism, integrity and teamwork. Gale also served as Executive Director of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) from 2010 to 2017. She was the first female to hold that position in the then 184-year-old institution. Gale represented the Chamber at various levels including leading the business community’s advocacy agenda locally, regionally and internationally and was lauded for the several stakeholder relationships which have been fostered under her stewardship. The new Executive Director is no stranger to the public service, having spent almost a decade working as a senior advisor to the Government on International Trade Policy. She served as a Senior Economist with the Foreign Trade Division in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, held a short stint as Chief Research Officer at the Ministry of Tourism and served as Economist in the Ministry of Industry and International Business. Gale holds both a Master’s degree in International Trade Policy which she gained with Distinction and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and History with honours from the University of West Indies. More recently Lisa has been a moderator on the VOB’s Down To Brass Tacks. Sharon has amassed a wealth of experience and qualifications and is eager to continue on this trajectory of quality assurance and enhancement, customer service, education and training over her career. Coupled with holding leadership positions at both Cable & Wireless (Jamaica) Ltd and the BAC, Alleyne has earned Post-Graduate Certificates from the Vocational Training Development Institute and the University of Melbourne in Pedagogical Studies and Quality Assurance, respectively. She holds Master’s degrees from Nova Southeastern University and the University of Phoenix; and an Honours Bachelor’s degree from The University of the West Indies. The BAC, which became operational in 2006, was established by an Act of Parliament in 2004 with responsibility for registering and accrediting tertiary educational providers and their programmes in Barbados. It also grants and verifies certificates of recognition for the CARICOM Skills Qualification issued to nationals of member states. Poised with the authority to set standards for registration, programmes of study and accreditation, the Council’s Chairman Ann Lady Hewitt in welcoming the new management said that the Board is pleased to add new talent and experience to the existing highly trained staff and stands confident that these augmented human resources will assist in advancing the BAC’s vision as it seeks to become a world class, dynamic quality assurance agency for post-secondary/tertiary education in Barbados.
