The Small Craft Warning and High Surf Warnings issued earlier today remain in effect for Barbados.

This warning is issued when sustained winds more than 30 mph and sea swells greater than 3 metres (greater than 10 feet) are affecting or forecast to affect the marine area within the next 36 hours. A High Surf Warning is issued when breaking wave action results in or is forecast to result in an especially heightened threat to life and property within the surf zone within the next 36 hours.

TheBarbados Meteorological Service said in a statement, “Rough sea swells in open water associated with Tropical Storm Gonzalo is forecast to affect the island from Saturday afternoon peaking near 3.5m or 11ft mainly along the eastern coastal zones.”

The BMS advised, all marine craft operators and beachgoers to note the following possibilities along the coast and near shore due to the imminent marine threat. Large open water swells can be hazardous to some vessels. Operation of smaller vessels can be difficult at times due to large swells.

Sea bathers and small crafts should stay out of the water. (BMS)
