Government will continue to assist those vulnerable families enrolled in the Adopt our Families Programme.

Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, Alies Jordan, said that while the programme was now closed to new entrants, assistance would continue for those who had already received three monthly payments from the programme.

She added that the uploads to the debit cards issued to families within the programme would continue on a monthly basis for a further three months, subject to a review of their household circumstances.

Originally intended to help 1,500 families for three months, the programme has assisted 3,453 families, Ms. Jordan disclosed, noting that this was more than double what was envisioned.

The Permanent Secretary noted that the Adopt our Families Programme has been well supported by donations from companies, charities and individuals, including many Barbadians living abroad, as well as those who had become Barbadians “by choice”.

She thanked all those who have contributed to the programme, saying: “Our interest in these vulnerable families shows our commitment to take action to be our brother’s keeper.”

In addition, Jordan thanked her colleagues in the Ministry of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, the COVID-19 Implementation Unit and the Household Mitigation Unit for all their hard work in ensuring that the most vulnerable households could receive assistance during this very difficult period.

Persons may continue to make donations to account number 1001193982, at CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank, Broad Street Branch, under the title Ministry of Finance Adopt a Family.

Deposits should be made directly to the account, and an email sent to adoptafamily@pmo.gov.bb, informing of the deposit.

Individuals living overseas who wish to contribute should make their deposits to CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank, Broad Street, St. Michael, Account Number 1001193982 – Swift Code FCIBBBBB.
