General Secretary Dennis De Peiza said the grouping last met in June but the severe challenges facing the Barbados economy triggered by the crippling impact of COVID-19 now demand urgent talks to find solutions to arrest the declining state of the economy. “Against the backdrop of the rising tide of unemployment, the closure of businesses, the uncertainty surrounding the reopening of the tourism sector and the indecision which surrounds the start of overdue projects, there is an urgent need for discussion at the level of the Social Partnership,” he said in a statement. Stressing the need for a national response, the CTUSAB head said the current situation is not unlike the start of the year when the social partnership had convened a series of meetings to address economic recovery and stability of Barbados.
