An accused denied ownership of bullets found in a toilet bowl at his residence.

Hasan Corey Catlyn declared today that the bullets seen in the photographs were not his.

Similarly, his mother Beverly Foster said she did not know where the bullets came from and denied writing her initials on tape attached to the plastic bag with them. She told the court that the statement recorded by police did not reflect what she actually told the officers.

This was part of the evidence given as Catlyn’s trial for possession of five rounds of ammunition continued. The offence allegedly occurred on January 22, 2013.

The prosecution alleged that the bullets were found after a search warrant was executed at the Bridge Road, St Michael residence where police said they saw Catlyn coming from the bathroom with his hands wet before they discovered the ammunition.

In response to questions from prosecutor Senior Crown Counsel Neville Watson Foster recalled living with her son Catlyn and daughter at the time of the incident. Her daughter, however, was not at home on the date of the offence but she remembered when police came with a warrant and she gave them permission to enter the house. Hasan was in the back bedroom and she was asked to stay in the living room as they searched the home. Police told her of their findings and Foster made it clear that the ammunition was not hers, she said in her evidence.

Foster admitted giving a statement to police and they wrote down what she said. However, when she read the statement from the stand today she said it was inaccurate.

During cross-examination by counsel Arthur Holder, Foster said that prior to the police knocking at the door, her son did not use the bathroom. In relation to her initials on the plastic bag with the bullets, Foster said she was never shown bullets at the police station.

“I don’t know how that get there,” she declared when she saw her initials on the tape.

It was also revealed that Foster’s daughter and boyfriend had slept at the residence the night before.

“When the items were found in my mum’s toilet and the police asked to give account, I said they were not mine. The reason I did not sign the statement is because I stated from the beginning that they were not mine,” Catlyn said during his unsworn statement today.

Closing addresses will be given on Monday in the No. 3 Supreme Court where Justice Carlisle Greaves is presiding.
