The People’s Party for Democracy (PdP) candidate for the St George by-election businessman David Waldron, is making it clear that he is the best person for the job and is ready to take on any giant that he will be running against.

The businessman who has served at different levels in that constituency, including as Chairman of the District Emergency Organization (DEO) and constituency council member, told those who attended the PdP’s first by-election meeting at Sam’s Place, Glebe, St George, that he was born and raised in St George North and is ready for the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) candidate trade unionist Toni Moore.

“As you understand, my name is David. You might remember the story of another David who took on a certain giant and was victorious. Well I am here to tell you this David is ready to take on another giant. That giant goes by the name of the BLP. Just as we took out the giant African snails that once plagued us, with your help, this David will be victorious in taking out the BLP,” he said.

Waldron shared that interestingly, when he attended Combermere, he had the distinct honour of sitting next to one of his opponents, Grenville Phillips, President of Solutions Barbados, and added that he “also had the distinguished honour to have survived that experience”.

On a serious note, the candidate said he was concerned about the high level of youth unemployment in St George North as well as unresolved land issues that persisted despite former Member of Parliament for the area Glyne Clarke serving as Minister of Housing and Land.

Waldron said he will also continue highlighting the issue of crime, as he campaigns to take the seat.

“Our road network in St George North is in horrible condition. The state of the road is so bad, that when you drive through places like Sweet Vale or Sweet Bottom, and other parts of St George North, you are driving on roads that feel like cart roads.

“We also have some very dangerous intersections in St George North that need attention urgently. The intersection at Four Roads next to Groves, we have several accidents on a regular basis.

“Charles Rowe Bridge junction; there is always a back up there and confusion. The Salters junction, we also have a lot of accidents and confusion. So we will continue to belt out the road issues from our platforms,” he said.

The candidate also outlined that he was concerned that the Glebe Polyclinic closes early denying constituents access after hours.

Waldron who said he has run a successful printing business and taught graphics art at St George Secondary School and the Garrison Secondary School, now Graydon Sealy.

He said his position as Chairman of the DEO has allowed him to interact with and assist many constituents, including heading a drive to reduce the presence and negative impact of the giant African snails.

“Currently, I am a local farmer and still live right here in St George North. It is with a warm sense of belonging and appreciation for you the people of St George North my family, I believe we have a sincere understanding for each other which I believe is very important in representing you the people of St George North. Be assured, I am here to serve you. (AH)
