COVID-19 monitors doing well – Bradshaw

Minister of Education Santia Bradshaw is reporting that the 240 monitors placed in schools to care for the island’s children are performing beyond expectations.

She said today that the monitors who started their duties on October 7, having been educated about their role and functions by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, have been assisting with the enforcement of the COVID-19 protocols, as well as aiding principals and teachers in dealing with the students on the compound.

“So far, the monitors have been trained and they have been provided with the shirts to be able to recognise them. They have been placed across the system, and from the feedback that we have received so far, things have been going reasonably well at the schools,” Bradshaw said.

The Minister said when she visited one primary school, she observed students being treated well and seemingly appreciative of the presence of the monitors.

“They really enjoy the fact that someone was able to take them to the bathroom, make sure that their masks were pulled up and just give them general assistance, because the reality is many of the persons who are there as monitors are doing more than simply testing the temperature, or indicating to them that they need to observe physical distancing. Many of them are actually paying attention to the needs of the children, and I think it has been a tremendous asset to the teachers in the system, particularly as they try to adjust to dealing with the technological changes in terms of the blended approach,” Bradshaw said.
