Local NewsNews BMS says rainy weekend ahead for Barbados by Barbados Today 03/11/2020 written by Barbados Today Updated by Asminnie Moonsammy 03/11/2020 2 min read A+A- Reset Share FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 249 The Barbados Meteorological Services cautions Barbadians to expect another rainy weekend in a weather information statement issued today. According to the forecasters, while the remainder of the week is likely to be sunny, the island will be affected by heavy rains that will gradually start on Saturday and increase on Sunday and continue throughout next week. The Met Office says while the statement is not a warning or a watch, Barbadians should prepare for expected heavy rainfall. Below is the full text of the weather information statement: Over Past Week: Some sections of Barbados recorded nearly 10 inches (250mm) of rainfall during the last week. This resulted in flooding across numerous sections of the island which triggered flood warnings and watches during the period. The unsettled weather was associated with a chain of synoptic events, from tropical waves to troughs which kept overcast skies and showers around for extended periods. The Barbados Meteorological Services is forecasting a slow transition on Saturday 7th November 2020 into another wet event starting from Sunday 8th November 2020 which will continue into the week. This event is forecast to bring occasional moderate to heavy showers to Barbados as a series of troughs are expected to affect the region during that period. What does this all mean for you? We are in the peak of an active rainy season, therefore we can expect further days of excessive rainfall that will lead to flooding across sections of the island. Due to the already saturated/moist nature of the soils across the island, flooding will be easier to trigger across sections of the island. What should you do? Plan your outdoor activities, such as repairs to leaking roofs, construction and road maintenance (just to name a few) in advance of the wet period. Ensure drains are not clogged and gutters are kept clear and free of debris. IMPORTANT MESSAGE: This information statement is NOT a warning or a watch, and it is merely intended for informational purposes to help build awareness of a possible upcoming rain event. Please continue to monitor all of our products for updates as we near the weekend. This message will be updated if the situation changes significantly.
