Barbados recorded 25 new positive cases of COVID-19 on Friday, January 29. These were identified from the 488 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.
Sixteen persons recovered from the viral illness and were discharged from isolation. There are now 372 active cases.
The 25 new cases comprise 13 women and 12 men. One of them is from Her Majesty’s Prison, Dodds – a male inmate. Four are persons who were previously sent to the Harrison’s Point Isolation Facility for assessment. Of the other 20 cases, 17 were identified as Barbadian nationals.
The new positive case at HMP Dodds brings the total number of persons diagnosed as positive at the institution to 362. Of these, 355 have recovered. The remaining seven persons are included in the active cases count.
To date, Barbados has recorded 1,523 confirmed cases – 622 females, 901 males – and 1,139 persons have recovered. Twelve persons have died.
The public health laboratory has so far completed 102,163 tests. (BGIS)
