The Barbados Meteorological Services has issued another small craft and high surf advisory.
The BMS advised the current small craft and high surf advisory will be valid until 6 a.m. tomorrow while the new advisory will be valid from 6 a.m. on Saturday, 6, February 2021 until 6 p.m. Sunday, 7, February 2021.
A small-craft advisory is issued when sustained winds of 20 to 25 knots and/or sea swells of 2.5 – 3.0 metres (8 – 10 feet) are affecting or forecast to affect the marine area within the next 36 hours.
A high-surf advisory is issued when breaking wave action poses or is forecast to pose a threat to life and property within the surf zone
during the next 36 hours.
Strong surface winds associated with the Atlantic high-pressure system will maintain rough sea conditions across Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean. Residents and visitors should expect rough swells ranging from 2.5 to 3.0 metres (8 to 10 ft) mainly in the northern,
eastern and south-eastern marine and coastal areas.
Beachgoers should exercise extreme caution during the advisory period as sea conditions could be life-threatening. All marine craft
operators should note that large open water swells may be hazardous to some vessels and operation of smaller vessels may be difficult at
times. These swells can pose a further threat along coastlines where wave action may result in beach erosion and some spillover onto
low-lying coastal roads. Residents and visitors are advised to exercise extreme caution.
