The island recorded two deaths from COVID-19 on Thursday, February 4. They are a 93-year-old woman with co-morbidities who died at the Harrison Point Isolation Facility, and an 83-year-old man who passed away last night after being admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

As of Thursday, the number of deaths from COVID-19 stood at 17.

There were also 15 new cases on that day, out of the 713 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory. Fifteen persons have recovered and were discharged from isolation. There are now 350 active cases.

The new positives comprise four women and 11 men. Four of them were previously sent to Harrison Point for assessment. Persons are sent to the isolation facility for assessment to confirm whether their PCR test result is that of a new case or an old case. Of the other 11 cases, eight were Barbadians.

The total number of persons diagnosed as positive at Her Majesty’s Prisons Dodds remains at 362. Of these, 355 have recovered and the remaining seven inmates are included in the active cases.

To date, Barbados has recorded 1,656 confirmed cases – 683 females, 973 males – and 1,289 persons have recovered.

The public health laboratory has completed 106,036 tests since February 2020. (BGIS)
