Winds speeds from the approaching Tropical Storm Elsa have increased across Barbados, according to the latest weather advisory issued by the Barbados Meteorological Services.
At 5 a.m., the centre of Tropical Storm Elsa was located near latitude 12.7N longitude 58.6W or about 70 MI (110 KM) east- southeast of the island.
Maximum sustained winds are near…60 MPH…95 KM/H with higher gusts. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140 miles (220 km) mainly to the north of the centre. Over the last few hours, wind speeds have increased across the island.
Elsa is currently moving towards the west-northwest (290 degrees) at 28 MPH (44 KM/H). This motion is expected to continue during the next few days. On its current forecast track, the centre of tropical storm Elsa should pass about 20 miles (33 km) to the south of Barbados Friday morning.
Rainfall accumulations of six to eight inches are forecast across Barbados on Friday. A flash-flood warning is currently in effect for Barbados.
