Reading about Mr. Mark Maloney’s plight I said to my self, “My lord it’s Forrest Gump time in Barbados”. Of course I am referring to that famous line of Mr. Gump “stupid is as stupid does”. I say this for three reasons.
First, why would the Barbados Government buy vaccines through a local private company when it can deal directly with the manufacturers, foreign governments with surpluses and with COVAX for supply? Why would they pay a commission to someone to do for them what they could do for themselves? Second, Mr. Maloney surely did not do his due diligence from the outset and ask that same question. Was he speculating he had better access but never considered he would be scammed if he got involved in a supply chain totally controlled by governments
Finally, why would one advance full payment without seeing the goods on his dock? He is not likely to see a penny even if he spends a bunch on legal fees and gets a judgement against the defendants.
They will declare bankruptcy and that will be that. The money no doubt is hidden in some off shore account where it cannot be recovered. Stupid is as stupid does.
