Christ Church man on fraud charges

Fraud accused John Wayne Clarke is out on $10 000 bail after appearing in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court today.

As part of his bail the 57-year-old from Coverley Development, Christ Church must also report to the Oistins Police Station every Wednesday by 10 a.m. He was also given until 3 p.m. on Friday to surrender his passport to the court and warned not to apply for any travel documents without the court’s permission.

Clarke is charged with stealing $25 000 belonging to Jeffrey Lewis. The funds were allegedly the proceeds of a Republic Bank (Barbados) Limited cheque paid to the order of John Wayne Clarke B/O Jeffrey L. Lewis and drawn on the account of the Barbados Public Workers’ Co-operative Credit Union Limited.

That offence is said to have been committed between November 19 and December 15, 2020 in the District ‘B’ jurisdiction.

In the District ‘A’ jurisdiction Clarke is alleged to have stolen $15 000 belonging to Raphael Hurdle being the proceeds of a

Republic Bank (Barbados) Limited cheque paid to the order of John Wayne Clarke B/O Raphael Wayne and drawn on the account of the Barbados Public Workers’ Co-operative Credit Union Limited.

The accused allegedly committed the offence between November 24 2020 and January 12, 2021.

Clarke, who is represented by attorneyat-law Kashka Mottley, secured the bail sum with one surety but was not required to plead to the indictable charges when he appeared before Acting Magistrate Krystal Delaney this afternoon.

He has been ordered to make his next appearance before the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on April 6.

Police Constable Ralph Rollock represented the Crown when the case was called today.
