A 39-year-old man was on Wednesday jailed for nine months for offences he committed against a visitor.
Acting Magistrate Krystal Delaney imposed the sentence on Richard Jamar Dupres, who is recorded as having no fixed place of abode, for assaulting Melanie Racett on September 24, causing her harm; stealing a cellular phone, a phone case and a charger worth $1,476.28 belonging to her; as well as damaging a pair of glasses belonging to the complainant on September 1.
He had been on remand awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to the charges.
Dupres was given a nine-month prison term on the theft charge and the same sentence on the assault charge. The sentences will run concurrently.
He was convicted, reprimanded and discharged on the criminal damage charge.
