Following the retirement in August of Neil Paul, after 15 years with the UWI, the SRC has appointed attorney-at-law and trade specialist Dr Jan Yves Remy to the top post. “Let me also say that I am proud to lead a capable team of researchers and administrative personnel who, in the words of our Vision Statement, aim to serve as beacons for excellence and creativity, dedicated to serving our students, community, region and wider world,” Dr Remy said in a recent posting on the SRC website. Remy said she was conscious that there is much work to do, as the international global economy was fast evolving and “we in the Caribbean have to hang on for dear life, lest we become hostages to it, whether from haplessness or idleness”. According to the new SRC director, “We at the SRC see our role as being the eyes, ears and mouth of CARICOM on all things trade.
