The 27-year-old of Sargeant’s Village Main Road, Christ Church appeared before Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes moments ago and pleaded guilty to willfully ill-treating her child, a one-year-old, in a manner likely to cause unnecessary suffering or injury. The offence, which was the subject of a viral video, was committed on October 15. The video shows Reece gripping the neck of the infant. Reece told the court she recorded the video to get the attention of the child’s father with whom she has an intimate relationship. The Chief Magistrate pledged to ensure the young mother receives the help and counselling that she deserves but he made clear she needed to reflect on her actions, stressing that children must be protected. Reece will return to court on November 8.
