Please spare me a bit of space in your paper to vent on a very disturbing situation in West Indies cricket.

I must congratulate Conde Riley for his support of the last CWI president Dave Cameron who was willing to hold people to account for their performances, attitude and commitment to West Indies cricket. The administration of the game truly misses him.

Unfortunately, the rest of our cricket leaders and directors did not have Riley’s vision and courage as they were swayed by the empty rhetoric of Ricky Skerrit and company. What we have now is a president engaged in a popularity contest with players rather than holding them to account.

Is it only me that has observed the disparity in performances of these players when turning out for the West Indies and when playing for their IPL franchises. They either perform in the IPL or they lose their contracts. For the West Indies, their failure is a mere road to a fat pay cheque or administrators and captain making lame excuses.

Young leg spinner Hayden Walsh Jr. flourished recently under the captaincy of Nicholas Pooran against Australia who used him admirably. Regular captain Kieron Pollard has continuously under-bowled him and treated him in a manner that would not inspire self-confidence.

Walsh was an original member of the team to the World Cup.

An injury ruled out Fabian Allen and Akeal Hosein is elevated from the reserves and is selected ahead of Walsh from the initial party for the match against England. No one has explained that yet and it is therefore left to conjecture that his place of birth assisted in Hosein leapfrogging Walsh. The only batsman who has shown form in the warm-ups was Roston Chase, yet he was not selected against England.

There is an old saying that God does not like ugly and a lot of ugliness is present in West Indies cricket. I anticipate that they will not win a single match.
