Local NewsNews CHRISTMAS MESSAGE: Remembering our most vulnerable at Christmas – UPP by Barbados Today 25/12/2021 written by Barbados Today Updated by Asminnie Moonsammy 25/12/2021 1 min read A+A- Reset Share FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 162 A refrain often repeated during the COVID-19 global pandemic is “We are in this together.” Of course, many were quick to observe that in a storm “we are not in the same boat”, simply meaning that in turbulent times the degree to which individuals are able to overcome will vary, and is influenced by multiple factors. For instance, this pandemic has created stressful challenges for our young students who have had to adapt to novel learning approaches for a prolonged period. Despite the provision of digital teaching aids, nothing compares to the benefits of classroom learning and the general school environment. The truth is, a majority of students remain handicapped by utilizing the online delivery method. The season of Christmas presents an opportunity for those with the extra resources to assist the most vulnerable groups within our society. The traditional Barbadian Christmas not only involved cleaning and sprucing up, but, most importantly, sharing of provisions and delicacies with neighbours and friends alike. This generosity must continue to be an aspect of our culture. During these holidays, let us endeavour to assist the needy and do what is necessary to support our children’s mental health in these current unprecedented circumstances. They are our future and education is vital to building up a progressive society. The United Progressive Party sincerely wishes all Barbadians a Merry Christmas, good health and blessings.
