Local News People-centred plan for St Michael North West by Barbados Today 30/12/2021 written by Barbados Today 30/12/2021 1 min read A+A- Reset Share FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 216 The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) candidate for St Michael North West will be campaigning on a platform of improvement for the people of the constituency whom he said have been dealt an unfair hand over the years. Ryan Walters was among several candidates who have been canvassing the constituencies they want to represent following the January 19, 2022 general elections. He said he will focus on addressing the urgent needs of residents whom he said had not benefitted from Government’s policies and were suffering even before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. “Our programme is focused on the people in the constituency, it’s going to be very people-oriented, and it’s going to be focusing on the issues of the day that the people of this constituency are facing,” Walters said as he made his rounds in the community. “We intend to hammer home at all of the inefficiencies, all of the bad treatment, and all of the hardships that this Government has put these constituents through…. Although the Government came to office [and] removed the NSRL [National Social Responsibility Levy], although the Government wrote off over $1 billion in VAT that was owed to them, we saw no impact in the reduction of the cost of food on the shelves of supermarkets in Barbados. These are burning issues that constituents and Barbadians have,” he insisted.
