In its continued efforts to assist in the fight against COVID-19, Mount Gay Distilleries Ltd. is donating hand sanitiser to over 300 bars, restaurants, rum shops, supermarkets and minimarts across the island.

Managing Director, Raphael Grisoni, during a presentation to the Famous Bird Bar on Bay Street noted: “It was fundamental that we played our part in the battle against this pandemic and so our teams quickly adapted to facilitate the production of our own hand sanitiser last year, as we recognised the importance of this product in keeping us all safe.

“We were especially keen to make the presentations during the festive season and this period of increase in tourist arrivals and take the opportunity to remind everyone that it is extremely important to continue to follow the protocols while enjoying the holidays.”

To date, Mount Gay has donated over 8, 000, 1.75 litre bottles of hand sanitiser to Government agencies, including the Barbados Police Service, the Barbados Postal Service and the Barbados Customs Department, as well as other business partners.

Grisoni added that the company has also partnered with the Ministry of Health and Wellness to host a Community Engagement Vaccine site at its Brandons location and worked with the St. Lucy Parish Independence Committee (PIC) to assist residents within the immediate surroundings of its St. Lucy plant, who were affected by the pandemic, among other activities.

Owner of the Famous Bird Bar, Vishnu Sookram, thanked Mount Gay for the donation, noting that the hand sanitiser is now one of the most important products for his business.

He said: “I am very grateful for this donation, as it will assist us in keeping our patrons safe.

Hand sanitiser was not a product we needed to purchase before but it is now a necessity and this donation from Mount Gay will go a long way in helping us in the fight against COVID-19 and running our business.”

Adrian Padmore, Managing Director of Brydens Stokes Ltd., which will be distributing the hand sanitizer to rum shops and minimarts, explained that his company was pleased to be a part of the initiative.

“We have been partners with Mount Gay for just over a year and we are really excited to take the partnership to a new level with this fantastic initiative. We are very happy, at this time when COVID-19 is at the fore, to participate in this meaningful venture together.

“It will have a positive impact as our customers understand the importance of having hand sanitiser readily available, so the donation . . . produced by Mount Gay and distributed by Brydens Stokes will certainly assist in keeping COVID-19 at bay,” he said. (PR)
