Head of COVID-19 Isolation Facilities, Dr Corey Forde, at a nationally televised COVID-19 update, revealed that the teen had underlying conditions. “He was extremely ill and on behalf of the paediatric team, we give condolences to the family with regard to that particular aspect,” said Dr Forde. “But be assured that certainly for us in isolation and those in the Ministry of Health, we are going to fight to get past this particular surge.” Despite the unfortunate news, Dr Forde revealed that the number of sick people in isolation remains low and staff were able to successfully remove the tube from a patient who was on a ventilator. “In our primary isolation area where most of our sick people are, we only have seven sick people. In our primary isolation B, we only have 12 people. So that gives you a total of 19. Out of that 19, 13 of them are above the age of 61. That is a large population that we need to get boosted as well or get vaccinated. We have one person between the age of 20 and 30 in that group who is there,” said Dr Forde.
