The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) candidate for St Philip South Neil Marshall is suggesting that divine intervention may have saved Barbadians from enduring a full five-year term under the ruling Barbados Labour Party (BLP).

Marshall, who accused the Mia Amor Mottley-led administration of inflicting psychological damage on Barbadians over the last three weeks, said that the General Election set to be held on Wednesday, January 19 is an opportunity for voters to change the trajectory along which the country is headed.

“I fear that if we don’t go out in our numbers on the 19th of this month and remove the stain and the blot that is this current regime that Barbadians will not know what hit them in a few short years. The Prime Minister has already warned that tough decisions are going to have to be made. Barbadians I am not using the word ‘tough’ decisions. Hard decisions. And hard decisions bring hardship,” Marshall said while speaking at a DLP spot meeting at Lynches on Tuesday evening.

Marshall said he is ready to be elected as the next Member of Parliament for St Philip South. He accused Indar Weir who won the seat on a Barbados Labour Party (BLP) ticket of “ducking and hiding” from constituents to whom he made grand promises. The challenger said Weir, despite having access to government resources, failed to do much to enhance the lives of constituents.

“Even as the Minister of Agriculture he could make no difference to the farmers of St Philip. We have agricultural areas such as Kirtons, up here in River and so on and no single policy of that minister has touched or impacted on the lives and livelihoods of this big constituency of St Philip.

“And instead, he cruises around looking cute and thinking that that is what representation is. We have had all sorts of issues plague this country and you could not tell where either of these representatives feel on one matter, what are their views or opinions on anything at all,” Marshall said.
