Bajans tap into Spanish, Venezuelan culture

The Venezuelan Institute for Culture and Cooperation is celebrating its anniversary of partnership with the National Library Service as they begin classes in 2022 A new term of Spanish and Venezuelan Culture by the Venezuelan Institute for Culture and Cooperation (IVCC), in alliance with the National Library Service, began in earnest this week.

Over 100 Barbadians, ranging from judges and pastry artists to doctors, lawyers and social activists, make up the list of students registered for the online course this year.

In his opening remarks to welcome the new students, Venezuelan Charge D’Affaires Álvaro Sánchez Cordero thanked and congratulated them for supporting this cultural and diplomatic initiative of cooperation between Barbados and Venezuela.

The opening of the new term also marked the first anniversary of the launching of the successful partnership between the IVCC and the National Library Service.

At the launching of the partnership a year ago, former Minister of Culture John King said: “I want to thank the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela for partnering with the National Library Service to provide to us the opportunity to engage in the learning of a new language.”

The IVCC has taught Spanish and Venezuelan Culture to more than 10 000 Barbadians over the past 43 years. (PR)
