Local News Massy to reopen soon after fire by Barbados Today 04/05/2022 written by Barbados Today 04/05/2022 1 min read A+A- Reset Share FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 138 Officials at Massy Stores expect that the Worthing, Christ Church location will reopen to business shortly, following a fire on Tuesday morning. Massy’s Chief Executive Officer Randall Banfield told reporters on the scene that “because of quick action by the fire service and staff members, we were able to bring it under control quickly, so the damage is localised to part of the interior of the store”. “There was a fair amount of smoke damage and collateral damage of inventory and different things,” he added. Banfield said the approximate 150 staff members at the Worthing store would temporarily move to other branches. “Some are being deployed as we speak to some of the other stores to cope with the traffic. Some will be retained here to help put things together, help with clean-up, help with assessments, so we are hopeful that we will be back up and running soon,” the CEO reported. Eleven fire officers under the command of Divisional Officer Mervin Moore and two other senior officers responded to the fire that was reported around 5:35 a.m. by a worker who noticed smoke coming from the building.
