There will be a total lunar eclipse when the dark blood red shadow of the Earth will cover the entire Moon, beginning at 9:30 p.m. and ending around 2 a.m. the next day. In its first major event since the COVID-19 pandemic, the Barbados Astronomical Society Inc. (BASI) will open the grounds of the Harry Bayley Observatory to the public free of cost from 10 p.m. on Sunday to 2 a.m. on Monday. Large screens will be erected on the grounds to allow patrons to view closeup minute-by-minute images of the Moon beamed from high powered telescopes, as the eclipse progresses. Patrons will also get audio commentary of the event and will be able to pose questions related to the Moon, and astronomy in general, to astronomers on hand. The BASI said it will provide affordable pay-per-view coverage for those who want to remain at home.
