William Vince Thornhill maintained on Monday that he did not have an illegal gun on August 6, 2011.

The Harmony Hall, St Lawrence, Christ Church resident stated the position as he gave an unsworn statement from the dock of the No. 2 Supreme Court before Justice Randall Worrell and the jury hearing his case.

Thornhill is on trial charged with having a .45 calibre pistol and ten rounds of ammunition without valid licences on the mentioned date.

“On the 6th of August, I was walking in Navy Gardens when I saw the police. I ran because I had weed on me. I never had a gun,” he claimed.

“The next day, police . . . . dem me and make me sign de statement. I never made dem oral statements. I never tell no police that I had a gun, nor the black hat or the shoe was mine.

“Until this time, I was never involved with police before. That is all I have to say, Sir,” Thornhill stated.

The case, in which Crown Counsel Romario Straker and Senior Crown Counsel Olivia Davis are the prosecutors, will continue on Thursday. Arthur Holder appears for Thornhill.
