The Barbados Meteorological Services continues to closely monitor the progress of a tropical wave near 37W or some 2475KM (1540 miles) east of Barbados as of 5 p.m. on Saturday.

A tropical wave will bring some showers and possible isolated thunderstorms on Sunday here in Barbados, but it is not associated with the system being monitored by the met office.

The system has remained disorganized throughout the day as it lacked deep convection near or around the center.

Since this morning’s statement the system has been tracking westward near 15 mph (24km/h) and this general westward to slightly north of westward motion with an increase in forward speed around Monday is expected.

Some slow development is expected over the next few days and a tropical depression could form sometime early or by the middle of next week.

Regardless of development,  residents are urged to be ready and to remain on the alert for messages from this department and the department of emergency management over this weekend and in particular on Monday.

Marine, excess rainfall, severe thunderstorm and wind alerts remain elevated to yellow level for Tuesday.

This means that the public should be aware that there is the possibility of hazardous weather conditions in the next few days.

Dry mid-level air wrapping in from the northeast and southeast of the exposed vortex centered near 7.8N 37.5W at 5 p.m. made it difficult all day long for the system to flare up any sustainable deep convection.

There is however, an opportunity late this evening and into the early hours of the night for some convection to develop near or over the center due to a diurnal cycle.

On Sunday morning these environmental conditions should improve over the system, particularly during the night of Sunday convection should become easier for the system to generate.

Once this convection gets going slow development of the system is expected.

As a reminder, kindly follow official sources of alerts for Barbados issued by the Barbados Meteorological Services.
