It is happening over and over again and It does not appear as though anyone is addressing the situation frontally. And if someone is, then the public should be made aware of what steps are being taken. But over the past few years, the level of indifference for John Public has noticeably risen.

A few months ago, a man walked free of a murder charge because he was not allowed to see a lawyer while in custody. If that matter has been investigated by the Police Service’s disciplinary arm, what steps have been taken? Why has the public not been kept abreast of what is happening?

Just the other day, six men walked free of serious criminal charges because after more than two years the police responsible for the case had not seen it fit to make up the files dealing with them. I follow the court cases and police being negligent on producing files for court seems to be the rule not the exception.

Why isn’t the Commissioner of Police and Attorney General addressing this blot on law enforcement publicly?

I have no legal background but I would like to see what would happen if a victim of crime sued the Commissioner of Police, the Attorney General and the Government for damages, if he or she did not get their day in court because of the negligence of persons in doing the job taxpayers are paying them to do.
