Senators led by a game-high 37 points from point guard Rasheed Harte showed no mercy for ACS United as they trounced their struggling opponents 83-29 in what was a blowout at the Belfield Hardcourt in Black Rock last night.
This particular match between Senators and ACS United was rained out on three occasions and despite the rain threatened to fall once more yesterday, the showers held up and play came off in the Co-operators General Barbados Amateur Basketball Association Challenge Series.
Senators stamped their authority 18-3, 37-10 and 58-18 after the first three quarters. There was an impressive showing from Kyhia Dyall with the second best individual score of 21 points. The combination of Harte, son of Richard Bennett and a stalwart of the sport, and Dyall, proved effective for the victors.
Senators centre Tristan Yarde contributed eight to the overall score and at the end of the first quarter they were in a dominant position thanks to some key plays in the backcourt. That along with great tactical awareness and passing played a major role for Senators in the scoring department. They also capitalized on a number of fast break opportunities.
ACS with a good crop of players surprisingly have not registered a single win for the competition so far and yesterday their losing streak continued. They were especially guilty of a number of turnovers, most of which Senators took advantage of and converted into baskets.
Coached by former Barbados player Dwight Rouse, Senators held the advantage 58-18 in the third quarter and basically had the victory signed, sealed and delivered as ACS only managed a mere eight points in the third stanza.
The night cap game between Pharmaceutical Plus Mayhill and East Avenue Realtors Young Bears was rained out yet again. At the Pine, St. Michael, Kolij Lions won by default against JG Fitness Checker Hall Braves who failed to show up for the match. Pinelands B and Panthers will have to compete another day after the rain washed out their encounter. morissalindsay@barbadostoday.bb
