It saddens me to see how the West Indies cricket team has lost the ability to win games. We are now satisfied with not getting beaten badly, or losing a close game, or putting in an excellent effort though losing.
What is wrong with wanting to win, win, win? I get the impression that as long as West Indies do not get beat too badly, they do not feel too badly. But we need to arrive at a place where losing hurts. Where losing makes us feel so angry that we go home and break some dishes. We are now settling for doing okay considering who we are playing.
Nevertheless, I hope the selectors stick to this current crop and get into their heads about stuff such as pride, commitment, and the like. We must not return to the likes of bats-for-hire cricketers like Andre Russell and the shot putter chap Narine.
Let us move forward with what we have and those on the horizon. Look what opportunity has done for Kyle Mayers. He might not have got a chance had not some injuries and petulance and misplaced priorities not led to some players being unavailable. Now Mayers is emerging as a quality cricketer in all formats. So, there is hope.
